Arguably one of the most iconic e-liquid brands in the UK, Vampire Vape have been around since just about the dawn of vaping. You guys love them and we love them too - we thought it was about time we sat down and had a chat about where they’re at and what they’re going to be working on next.

If you aren’t familiar with the fanged mascot and Vampire Vape’s e-liquid range (where have you been?) allow us to introduce you. They were established back in 2012, starting off with a core collection of twelve flavours which has since expanded to an impressive fifty four after nearly a decade of mixing. All their e-liquids are made with the utmost care in their UK based labs, ensuring you get that exceptional quality across the board with only the highest quality ingredients being used.

Vampire Vape covers all levels of vaping these days, with options for mouth to lung vapers in the form of 50:50 e-liquids and nic salts, as well as high VG shortfills for that smooth Sub Ohm inhale. After a busy year last year, we spoke with Anthony Moses; Group Sales Director to see what we could expect next from the team at Vampire Vape.

A BRIEF HISTORY...

Vampire Vape was established in 2012, we began with just 12 core flavours, but this has expanded dramatically over the years and now dominates this space offering in excess of 50. All our e-liquids are produced here in the UK, and we employ experienced full-time flavourists to ensure each vape captures the genuine flavour it is aiming for.

Over the years, fun branding and a range of imaginative e-liquids make Vampire Vape perennially popular stocked in over 90% of independent vape stores and an extensive range of leading convenience, forecourt and retail outlets. A range of nicotine strengths and VG ratios, means we can offer something for all tastes and needs and you can use them with a full range of kits and tanks.

VS: WHAT MAKES YOU DIFFERENT FROM YOUR COMPETITION?

Anthony: The Vampire Vape brand is without doubt best known for our flavour Heisenberg, which was originally created in 2014, this famous e-liquid remains one of the best-selling flavours in the UK vape category – and inspired many copies that have failed to come close to the original! As a brand we are very coy about what goes into making the famous taste, but it’s certainly cool, fruity and refreshing.

VS: YOU OBVIOUSLY HAVE STRICT QUALITY CONTROL MEASURES; CAN YOU GIVE US A BRIEF RUNDOWN ON HOW YOU ENSURE UTMOST QUALITY IN EACH BATCH?

Anthony: Our headquarters and manufacturing facility, now one of Europe’s largest e-liquid production sites spans 120,000 square feet. We pride ourselves on the exceptional standards of our end-to-end manufacturing and compliance service. Within this, our state-of-the-art ISO grade production facility, which includes 8 fully automatic, custom-made machines. This enables us to produce over 300,000 units per day, with each process complying with GMP.

Every single ingredient used in the manufacturing process is of the highest quality. PG, VG and nicotine are USP/EP grade, and all flavours are food grade and have been specifically adapted for the e-liquid industry. Recognised global award winners, Flavour Warehouse has been built on the foundations of hard work and passion for producing great flavours and the best quality e-liquid and as trust becomes more important, we continue to be a partner of choice for our customers.

VS: IN WHAT HAS BEEN A TURBULENT YEAR WITH COVID AND ON TOP OF THAT; BREXIT, HOW HAVE VAMPIRE VAPE REACTED?

Anthony: During the pandemic and enforced lockdown the UK convenience market has been best positioned to and excelled at supporting local communities. 31% of shoppers now buy vape products from convenience stores which leaves a large opportunity to convert shoppers into buying vape products in stores. However, once restrictions eased and we moved into ‘adjusted normality’, how will shopper behaviour evolve? Can convenience retail maintain high footfall and continue to drive loyalty? At Vampire Vape, we are positioned as a category leader and support retailers on these ever-changing category trends to ensure they maximise every opportunity and are agile to react to these changing trends in the category.

Vampire Vape is broadly distributed across the EU so we did have some initial challenges with Brexit however, by working closely with both the Chamber of Commerce and our logistics partners we were able to adapt to new customs regulations (and they differ from country to country), provide appropriate documentation and largely maintain the speed of supply in the EU. In addition, during Q1 2021 we acquired a German based e-liquid distributor, Trulo GMBH, which helped solidify our distribution platform within the EU. Ensuring a quicker overall service into our distribution partners across Europe.

VS: FOLLOWING BREIT, ARE YOU EXPECTING ANY CHANGES TO THE CURRENT TPD REGULATIONS?

Anthony: TPD and compliance regulations are ever evolving so we do expect further developments for UK TPD however, uncertain at this stage what and when anything will change. There are encouraging moves in the EU such as Germany and the Netherlands where all liquids, be that 0mg / shortfills / DIY Concentrates must be TPD registered. This ensures that products are fully tested to TPD requirements before being available to consumers.

VS: WHAT ARE THE BIGGEST CHALLENGES YOU FACE IN THE INDUSTRY?

Anthony: Like any operator in our industry the challenges we face are ensuring we continue to meet and exceed our customer expectations. It’s key to stay relevant, ensuring the product offer is fit-for-purpose for our consumer, providing breadth of choice and high quality for all vaper types. And ensuring our routes to market remain strong given the shift in consumer traffic.

VS: WHAT ARE YOU MOST PROUD OF VAMPIRE VAPE FOR?

Anthony: We are proud of many things at Vampire Vape, most recently our capability to cope, adjust and thrive in challenging circumstances such as those driven by COVID and Brexit. Our ability to react and succeed during tough times has been remarkable. The brand has continued to grow both domestically and internationally and we aim to continue our journey to ensure every vaper, across the world, has access to our fantastic products.

VS: WHAT’S IN STORE FOR VAMPIRE VAPE OVER THE NEXT 12 MONTHS?

Anthony: Our goal is to continue to be the most trusted e-liquid supplier and our success is ultimately measured by the experience of our customers, partners, employees and our community. We continually invest in our people, processes and technology enabling us to deliver only the highest quality e-liquids made in Britain - and of course, all fully TPD compliant.

VS: ANY PREDICTIONS IN THE VAPING INDUSTRY OVER THE NEXT 12 MONTHS?

Anthony: We are anticipating a period of consolidation over the coming years within the industry. Many Vaping businesses have struggled with the challenges brought by COVID. This includes retailers, liquid brands, and distributors plus, a real shift in consumer buying habits – moving from traditional vape shops to convenience and specialist online vape retailers. With the positive appreciation of Vaping as a less-harmful alternative to smoking, the category will go from strength to strength however the trading landscape is likely to change significantly and we are already seeing that with the current disposable trend.

VS: IF YOU COULD GIVE ONE PIECE OF ADVICE TO A NEW VAPER WHAT WOULD IT BE?

Anthony: The best advice is; seek good advice!! We have spoken to many smokers who have tried vaping and switched straight off, when understanding the quitter journey better, we discovered a common theme. A 20-day smoker being advised to buy a box mod and a 3mg liquid. A complete mismatch with an expected result. A smoker not a vaper. Each “quitter” will have different needs and good hardware and liquid advice will ensure a better and more satisfying switch away from cigarettes.

THE VAPE SUPERSTORE VERDICT...

  • Heisenberg

While Vampire Vape have a huge range of flavours to pick from now (all of which are worth a peek) there are a few stand-outs we think are especially worth mentioning. The first of course has to be Heisenberg. Starting off as a limited edition flavour, this one is Vampire Vape’s signature blend of juicy and sweet mixed berries with a super crisp menthol and spicy aniseed base note. Many have replicated it since, but this one is the OG version and there’s just something special about it. Available in a nic salt format, as a standard 50:50 and in a high VG shortfill, everyone can give this one a go.

  • Pinkman

Pinkman is the fruity one of Vampire Vape’s two best sellers. It was another one of their limited edition e-liquids - until they just knew they had to make it a permanent fixture. Fruity flavours are the most popular amongst vapers these days and Pinkman really delivers on that front. It combines the juicy and tangy tones of mixed berries with a medley of tropical fruit, before finishing off with a squeeze of citrus. Perfectly balanced between sweet and tart, you’ll be pleased to hear this one is available in all e-liquid formats (plus an ice version if a touch of menthol is more your thing).

  • All Day Grape

Next up on the list is All Day Grape. As you might have guessed, the main body note in this one is the taste of juicy and sweet black grapes. The crispness of grapes is boosted by a cooling layer of ice, making for a refreshingly fruity and beautifully simple flavour. Ideal for both mouth to lung vapers and you cloud chasers, All Day Grape is another one that’s available as a 50:50 and a 50ml shortfill.

  • Black Jack

Next, we’ve got a couple just for the mouth to lung vapers. The first of which is Black Jack, available as a 50:50 and a nic salt formulation. It combines the complementary tones of sweet liquorice with spicy and almost cool tasting aniseed to make for a nostalgic and refreshing candy inspired e-liquid. While this might be a bit of a divisive choice, it’s one of those that if you love it, it may well be your next all day vape.

  • Bubblegum

Finally on the list, another candy option for you sweet tooth vapers. This one really captures the nostalgic taste of fruity strawberry-banana bubblegum making for a moreish flavour. Sometimes simple is best and Vampire Vape really nailed that with this super flavourful sweet treat.
