How to Choose the Right VG/PG Ratio
The PG/VG ratio is the proportion of Propylene Glycol (PG) and Vegetable Glycerin (VG) in the bottle. The VG/PG ratio affects vapour production, flavour intensity, and which devices a vape liquid works best with. The ratio also plays a key role in determining flavour intensity and vapour production, with different blends offering varying levels of taste potency and cloud density.
When browsing e-liquids online, you’ll see ratios mentioned like 50PG/50VG or 70VG/30PG.
Vaping styles and which e-liquid to use
Different vape kits are designed for different inhale styles, and choosing the right liquid for your vape kit makes all the difference.
Mouth to lung (MTL):
Uses thinner e-liquids and higher nicotine strengths. Best paired with 50/50 e-liquids or nicotine salts in pod kits and starter devices with higher-resistance coils.
Restricted direct lung (RDL):
A middle ground that can handle either 50/50 or some higher VG liquids, offering more vapour with a slightly tighter draw.
Direct lung (DL or sub-ohm):
Designed for thicker high VG e-liquids in lower nicotine strengths (typically 3mg or 6mg), producing warm vapour and larger clouds.
If you are ever unsure, check the coil resistance and follow the guidance on this page. Pair MTL kits with thinner 50/50 or nic salts, and use high VG shortfills with sub-ohm devices.
