Shop sub-ohm devices →Upgrading from disposable vapes?
If you're looking to upgrade from a single-use disposable vape, the good news is we have plenty of rechargeable vaping devices available. Following the disposable vape ban, many manufacturers have released prefilled systems that look and taste just like your favourite puff bar, with a choice of compact 600 puff kits to long-lasting big puff devices.
What's Included?
Every vape device consists of three core components, each of which work together to heat e-liquid and turn it into vapour.
Battery / Mod
The power source. It can be built-in or removable and determines the device's battery life and power output, with capacity typically measured in mAh (milliamp hours). Rechargeable battery kits can be charged via USB and some advanced mods allow external batteries for extended use.
Tank / Pod
The reservoir that holds your vape liquid. This can be a refillable tank or a convenient snap-in pod or cartridge. Tanks and pods have a TPD compliant 2ml capacity in the UK.
Vape Coil
The heating element. Coils have different resistances measured in Ohms that dictate how much vapour and flavour are produced. These can either be integrated or replaceable and are now commonly constructed with mesh wire for improved flavour and lifespan.
What is included in a vape starter kit?
Our range of starter kits, will include a personal vaporiser mod with an integrated battery, along with all the necessary components to get you started - one or two coils, a vape tank or pod, USB charging cable and spare parts. All you will need to do is purchase your chosen e-liquid. For kits designed for mouth to lung vaping, we advise purchasing a higher PG or 50/50 (VG/PG) ratio e liquid. The lower price and convenience make mouth to lung starter vape kits an ideal device for beginner vapers looking to make the transition from smoking.
What is included in a box mod kit?
Box Mod Kits will remove the confusion of pairing a box mod with a suitable tank and coil. Manufacturers have combined suitable mods, tanks and components for optimum performance. This allows you to have a great vaping experience from the word go with a high-quality vape box kit that is sure to exceed your expectations. Depending on brand and device, some vape kits will have integrated batteries and others you’ll be required to purchase either 18650 or 21700 sized batteries separately.
Vaping styles explained
Finding the right vape kit begins with understanding how you inhale. Your inhale style influences which device type, coil resistance, wattage and e-liquid will work best for you, and getting this right makes a noticeable difference to flavour and satisfaction.
Mouth-to-Lung (MTL)
A tighter draw that mimics a traditional cigarette, with vapour held in the mouth before inhaling. Best suited to higher-resistance coils and nicotine salts or 50/50 e-liquids.
Restricted Direct-to-Lung (RDTL)
A balanced option offering more vapour than MTL while retaining some resistance. Works well with mid-range coil resistances and balanced VG/PG ratios.
Direct-to-Lung (DTL)
An airy inhale with larger vapour production. Designed for sub-ohm coils, higher wattage and high-VG e-liquids with lower nicotine strengths.
| Feature | MTL | RDTL | DTL |
|---|---|---|---|
| Coil Resistance | 0.8Ω–1.8Ω | 0.5Ω–0.8Ω | <0.5Ω |
| Wattage | Low | Medium | High |
| Vapour Production | Low | Medium | High |
| Best E-Liquid | 50/50, Nic Salt | 50/50 or High-VG | High-VG Shortfill |

Other Things To Consider
Choosing the right vape kit comes down to how you plan to use it day to day. Beyond device type, there are a few practical factors worth considering.
Battery capacity
Battery life is measured in mAh. If you vape regularly throughout the day, a larger built-in battery or a device with removable batteries will last longer between charges. Smaller devices prioritise portability but may require more frequent charging.
Ease of use vs control
Some kits are inhale-activated with fixed power output, making them simple and low maintenance. Others offer adjustable wattage and airflow control allowing you to maximise vapour and flavour production.
Refillable vs prefilled
Refillable pod kits allow wider flavour choice and lower long-term costs. Prefilled systems offer convenience with minimal setup or maintenance.
E-liquid compatibility
Not all vape kits work best with the same type of e-liquid. Lower-powered pod kits are designed for 50/50 blends and nicotine salts, while sub-ohm devices require high-VG e-liquids. Using a high-VG liquid in a high-resistance MTL coil is the most common cause of dry hits, leakage and premature coil failure. You can browse our full range of e-liquids to find the right PG/VG ratio.
Budget & ongoing costs
Consider both the upfront price of the device and the long-term cost of maintaining it. Entry-level pod kits are typically more affordable to buy, while advanced sub-ohm devices may come with a higher initial price. Ongoing expenses such as replacement pods, coils and e-liquid should also be factored in.

Frequently Asked Questions
What vape kit is best for beginners?
A pod kit or MTL starter kit is the right starting point for most beginners, particularly those switching from cigarettes or disposables. They're simple to use, require no technical knowledge, and work with nic salts and 50/50 e-liquids at the strengths (10–20mg) that most effectively manage cravings. Avoid sub-ohm kits to begin with, high vapour volume and low nicotine strengths are better suited to experienced vapers.
Which kit should I buy if I'm switching from disposables?
A refillable pod kit is the closest match to a disposable bar. Choose a device with a coil in the 0.6Ω–1.0Ω range, pair it with a 20mg bar salt in the same flavour you already use, and the experience is directly comparable, at roughly a third of the ongoing cost. The OXVA Xlim Pod, Vaporesso Xros, and Uwell Caliburn range are consistently among the most recommended for this transition.
Which vape kit is best for clouds?
If you're prioritising clouds over flavour or nicotine, look for sub-ohm vape kits. These are supplied with low-resistance coils for use with high-VG liquids to generate more vapour. Brands such as SMOK, Voopoo and GeekVape are some of the best sub-ohm options.
What e-liquid should I use with my vape kit?
The e-liquid you need depends on the coil resistance in your vape kit. For low-resistance coils used in sub-ohm kits, you'll need a high-VG e-liquid. For MTL kits, a higher-PG or nic salt e-liquid will be best suited.
How long does a vape kit battery last?
Vape batteries typically last 1 to 2 days per charge, depending on their capacity (mAh), your vaping habits, and device wattage. Over their lifetime, most vape batteries are good for around 300 to 500 charge cycles, which translates to about 6 to 12 months of regular use.
How often should I replace vape coils?
The lifespan of a vape coil is about 1 to 2 weeks on average. There is no exact time and it can be influenced by a number of factors, including how frequently you vape, the length of your draw and what type of e-liquid you use.
Are vape kits regulated in the UK?
Yes. Vape devices sold in the UK must comply with the Tobacco and Related Products Regulations (TRPR), which set standards for safety, electrical compliance and tank capacity. All kits we stock meet UK regulatory requirements and carry a CE or UKCA mark confirming they meet electrical safety standards.
